Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal recently surrendered at Tihar jail after his interim bail, which was granted by the Supreme Court in the excise policy-linked money laundering case, came to an end on June 1. During his 21-day bail period, Kejriwal campaigned for the Lok Sabha elections. However, after the bail period concluded, he returned to Tihar jail and was sent to judicial custody until June 5.
Before surrendering, Kejriwal addressed party workers at the AAP HQ in Delhi. He expressed gratitude to the Supreme Court for granting him bail and emphasized that he had not wasted a single minute during those 21 days. Kejriwal’s return to jail was not due to any wrongdoing but because he had raised his voice against what he referred to as dictatorship. He criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi, stating that there was no evidence against him and that his arrest was based on a fake case. Kejriwal vowed to continue fighting against such authoritarianism in the country.
The exit polls predicting a resounding victory for the NDA (National Democratic Alliance) were dismissed by Kejriwal, who asserted that they were fake. He highlighted discrepancies in the exit poll results, emphasizing that the people of Rajasthan had only 25 seats, contrary to one exit poll’s claim of 33 seats for the BJP. Kejriwal’s stance reflected his commitment to transparency and his determination to challenge any form of dictatorship.
“I am Going back to jail not because I was involved in corruption, but because I raised voice against dictatorship,” said Kejriwal ahead of surrendering.Kejriwal paid obeisance at Mahatma Gandhi’s memorial at the Raj Ghat. He also visited the Hanuman temple in Connaught Place.
Meanwhile, BJP leader Manoj Tiwari slammed Kejriwal and termed him villain of Delhi. “There is a water crisis in the city. The (water) department comes under him but he never tried to provide clean water to the people of Delhi. Today, Arvind Kejriwal visited Raj Ghat. If he had followed Mahatma Gandhi, then he wouldn’t have to go to jail,” Tiwari told PTI
