Google honors India’s first female wrestler,Hamida Banu

 Born in the early 1900s near Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh, Hamida Banu defied norms by competing against men and issuing an open challenge to all male wrestlers.

Her legacy endures as a symbol of fearlessness and authenticity in the face of adversity

She gained fame both nationally andinternationally, defeating male opponents and earning the nickname “Amazon of Aligarh”

She defeated two male wrestling champions—one from Punjab’s Patiala and another from Kolkata in West Bengal

In February 1954, Hamida Banu issued a bold challenge to male wrestlers: “Beat me in a bout, and I’ll marry you.

 According to her neighbor Rahil Khan, Hamida Banu’s coach once beat her severely, leaving her with fractured legs.
